L’Oréal Brandstorm USA · 2025
Team LooksMax — from a two-in-one idea sketched on loose-leaf to the winners’ circle at L’Oréal Brandstorm USA.
Three of us, one idea, and a modular beauty system that took the national stage.

It began as a sketch: a 2-in-1 model breaking down into a fragrance tube, lip balm, and grip — dimensions, materials, and refillable formulas all worked out by hand.

The idea took shape: a pocket-sized modular body — spray nozzle, container, indicator light, and an ergonomic grip that snapped together in the hand.
Today it’s a fully modular, magnetic product. See the finished design just below.
L’Oréal Groupe · Product Design
LooksMax — a fully modular beauty system. One body, every essential, snapped together and carried anywhere.
A single magnetic core lets every component snap, stack, and lock into one compact body — spray, balm, and tool in the space of one. Pull it apart, rebuild it your way, clip it on, and go. It reframed the whole product journey: not a fixed object, but a kit the user composes around their own ritual.
L’Oréal Men Expert · Essentials Kit
A pocket clamshell that carries a full routine — lip balm, fragrance, and skincare — clipped to a keychain and engineered to spec.
An aluminum clamshell with a TPE insert holding three refillable bottles — snap it open, grab what you need, and clip it back on the go.

About
I’m David, a product designer and marketer drawn to simplicity and the quiet moment a thing just makes sense in your hand. I work where design and marketing meet, across beauty, AI, and government.
Today I’m a Brand Activations Ops, Events & Experiences Intern at L’Oréal Groupe USA, inside the Professional Products Division. I help bring professional brands to life through activations and live events, from early planning to the moments that make a brand land.
Alongside that, I run Special Projects and the Agentic AI Pavilion at HumanX, and I’m increasingly drawn to governmental design: the space between citizen and government, and making systems work without a hitch. Living in DC has shown me how much the government quietly innovates.
The goal is never decoration. It’s the quiet certainty that something was made specifically for you.
I don’t believe design is something you add. It’s what’s left after you remove everything standing between a person and what they came to do — until the right thing to do next is simply obvious.
Every element earns its place or it leaves. The hardest, most valuable decisions are about what not to build.
If it has to be explained, it isn’t finished. Understanding should arrive a beat before instruction ever does.
The best work goes unnoticed — it answers the moment you reach for it, then gets out of the way the instant its job is done.
Special Projects & Pavilion · San Francisco · 2026
The four days the AI industry plans its whole year around.
When every major name in AI lands under one roof, someone has to make the chaos feel effortless. For Special Projects and the Agentic AI Pavilion, that someone was me.
I shaped the Pavilion — the floor where agentic AI stopped being a slide and started doing things in front of people — and ran the connective tissue around it: speaker coordination, live operations, and a LinkedIn feed people actually stopped to read. Built alongside Barney Smith and Shoki Sakuma.

Global Government Intelligence System
A user-experience research project: a CRM concept that streamlines tax processing, passport renewals, and visa updates for U.S. embassies worldwide — designed around both the officer behind the desk and the citizen on the other side of it.
Fellowship & Service
A governmental design & leadership fellowship under Director Danny Stoian — working at the intersection of policy, diplomacy, and design for the public good.
Collaborating with the team at the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) and the U.S. Department of State on citizen-facing systems and experience.
What Moves Me
There is a company that taught the world what design could be. Not ornament. Not style. But a kind of moral precision — the insistence that every object a human being touches deserves to be considered deeply.
Apple Park is architecture as philosophy. A ring of glass and steel set inside eleven thousand trees, where the building itself dissolves at the edges. It was Jony Ive's final argument: that beauty and function are not a trade-off. They are the same thing.
That idea lives in everything I make. The quiet certainty that someone thought about you — really thought — before you ever held the thing in your hand. That is the standard I carry.
